Melbourne store stands out from the crowd

A rural supply store in the heart of Melbourne’s industrial suburb of Tullamarine has taken out this month’s Agsafe Achievers Award.

Globe Australia Tullamarine has been servicing the Victorian and Tasmanian Golf course greenkeepers, pest managers and turf growers for the past 18 months after moving the premises from Oakleigh, Victoria, with the ever expanding business requiring a larger premise.

Operations Manager Nick Jones said his seven years of experience in the business along with being a qualified greenkeeper has helped in knowing what customers want.

“I’ve got a bit of experience in the chemical area practically which allows me to think things over with the customers on their level,” he said.

He said he got a lot of help from Agsafe training with the proper procedures in recommending chemicals to his clients.

“We’ve always got customers coming in so we can recommend things like ‘Ute It Don’t Boot It’. The training also helps to recommend the right products and procedures” he said.

“A refresher course always helps on correct practices because laws do change all the time. Pallet racking changed this year. There’s now a standard and there wasn’t in 2011.”

Nick said seven of the staff are Agsafe trained and accredited including representatives on the road who recommend products.

He also strived to reach Agsafe Advanced status for the store this year.

“We wanted to stand out from the crowd a bit. Rather than just pass our accreditation we wanted to ensure we’re at the premium level of safety and storage,” he said.

Southern Victoria Agsafe Facilitator John Fennell said the store’s dedication to the program really shined through.

“Nick and the team at Globe were really conscious of their Agsafe commitments and were committed to getting Advanced Status,” he said.

“It’s rare to find a store like this which is aware of their ability to improve the safety standards of their business.”

Nick said he and the staff have learnt a lot from Agsafe training.

“Having an understanding of safe use and storage of chemicals is important,” he said. “It covers yourself as well as the business, and more importantly ensures a safe workplace for all staff, customers and environment.”

“We are honoured to receive this award from Agsafe, demonstrating the hard work put in by all to ensure we are at industry best practice.”
