Business seeking high bar wins award

For Agsafe Facilitator, John Fennell there aren’t many businesses like Landmark Kaniva in the Victoria’s north west.

Manager Michael Hodges and his team won this month’s Agsafe Achievers award and set a high bar for their expertise in maintain a safe and friendly workplace.

The Agsafe Advanced store caters to livestock and grain farmers from the region and surroundings and deal with moderate loads of agvet chemical.

Mr Fennell said the team is on the ball and are focused on the job.

“They were exemplary. Michael and his team tick all the boxes. He has worked very hard to get things right for Agsafe and the people who work for him are great,” he said.

Mr Hodges recently had heart surgery but was happy to take some time out of his recovery to chat with Agsafe about his win.

“Sixteen years ago we started in a tin-shed. Nothing compares to what we have now, especially staff attitudes,” he said.

Mr Hodges has been involved in the agricultural industry for 16 years, starting with IAMA Kaniva and seeing his way through a number of ownership changes.

He said Landmark have been a great support to his team and business.

“They gave us a new shed, a new yard. They have given us anything we need to make sure we’re safe but also our customers are safe,” he said. “Landmark have been great.”

“Our parent company, Agrium has also been very supportive and does a great job at understanding our needs.”

Mr Hodges said their Agsafe Facilitator, John Fennell has been an asset to the business as well.

“John’s been great. John will tell you the time and sit you down and say “there’s a Landmark in such and such that do this. How about I tell them to send you a copy or an example to show you how to do it?”’

“We’re on the main highway between Adelaide and Melbourne and it’s the sleepy part of the journey. I tell him to call in and have a coffee, because it’s free. We love the way he does business.”
